Blame the Played, Not the Player!

Joel Osteen
Joel Osteen is just one of many pastoral and evangelical con artists operating in the Christian religion. The saddest thing is that many people who have seen this meme of humor and truth [which I did not design but found on the internet] don’t mind at all the workings – or the wealth – of men and women like Osteen. If I had Osteen’s charisma and good looks (because I already have sufficient Bible knowledge, the public speaking talent and the ability to bullshit a mutherfucker on a dime), I too could get filthy rich by conning a bunch of people about the existence of mythological characters, places and the supposed happening of events noted in a man-written, multi-edited best-seller book called “The Holy Bible”. My mom used to always say (and she halfway expected) that I should be a preacher. (Sorry, Mom; having two in the family is enough!)

Regarding men and women like Joel Osteen, here’s some “old school” Philly street boy advice from yours truly:
“Blame the person who got played, not the player. He (or she) is simply skilled at what they do. That’s it. It’s not the player’s fault if you got or are getting played, especially when someone wise tries to warn and school you about the player and his/her game way beforehand.”

Good TV: ‘Greenleaf’

This show called Greenleaf; Wow!!

If you have ever regularly attended or are long-time members of a predominately Black/African-American church or, if you’re like me – a person who grew up in a family of relatives who are ministers and/or who hold positions of power, importance and influence in the Black church, then you might be able to relate to many of the negative – yet often true – aspects of this television show about a powerful and wealthy family who run a huge predominately Black/African-American church.

Greenleaf (OWN network series)

I got drawn to this show shortly after it premiered this past June (2016) from reading some of the Facebook postings of excitement made over it by my friend Christian Mosby; posts which piqued my curiosity about the show. (Thanks Chris. Now I’m hooked!) Some of the scenes and “mini-plots” in Greenleaf remind me of the realities I’ve witnessed firsthand and/or knew about which occurred in a few of the well-known Black churches in Philadelphia that I either attended or had held membership back in my pre-atheist days.

SERIES PLOT: (from  the websiteGreenleaf follows the unscrupulous world of the Greenleaf family with scandalous secrets and lies and their sprawling Memphis megachurch called Greenleaf World Ministries which has predominantly Black/African-American members. Cast members of this well-written show include (click the names to see photo and bio):

  • Keith David as Bishop James Greenleaf, charismatic and manipulative leader of Greenleaf World Ministries. (Keith David has always been one of my favorite actors. In fact, he’s one of the main reasons I’m watching this series.)
  • Lynn Whitfield as Lady Mae Greenleaf, who is Bishop Greenleaf’s wife and the family matriarch;
  • Merle Dandridge as Grace ‘Gigi’ Greenleaf. She is Mae and Bishop’s middle daughter who returns to home twenty years after escaping from the family;
  • Lamman Rucker as Jacob Greenleaf, the eldest, ne’er-do-well son of the Bishop. (Lamman is another favorite actor of mine.)
  • Kim Hawthorne as Kerissa Greenleaf, Jacob’s ambitious and controlling wife.
  • Deborah Joy Winans as Charity Greenleaf-Satterlee, the youngest daughter of the Bishop and Minister of Music. (Yes, Deborah is a member of that famous gospel music family!)
  • Tye White as Kevin Satterlee, Charity’s husband;
  • GregAlan Williams as Robert “Mac” McCready, as Lady Mae’s brother;
  • Benjamin Patterson as Noah Kendall, the Greenleaf Estate manager and Gigi’s ex. (I have long had a man-crush on this fyne brotha (who is also a model), since I first saw him in the recurring character role of Guy, in the now-defunct Noah’s Arc television series years ago.)

Former daytime TV talk show queen Oprah Winfrey is an executive producer and has a recurring role in the series.

Greenleaf premiered on June 21, 2016. You can catch the series Wednesday nights on the OWN [Oprah Winfrey Network] network. Check your TV local listings for broadcast time. Previously aired episodes are on your cable channel’s On-Demand feature and found online at the Greenleaf website or click here. As of this writing, the Greenleaf series is still in its first season. Enjoy!

The Hypocrisy of American Celebration of St. Patrick’s Day

lrish Mug of Green Beer, St Patricks Hat

As usual every year, we (that’s me, myself & I = RobFather-X, and we are One) will be happy when all of the silliness of American St. Patrick’s Day (SPD) is over. Many of the people in America who “celebrate” the day haven’t a drop of Irish blood, ancestry or heritage nor do they know or understand the history and meaning behind the observance or “holiday”. Many in America seem more concerned with dressing up in green, pulling “Irish” pranks, pretending to be Irish and drinking anything that’s colored green than with educating themselves to the point of appreciation of another country’s culture, history and people as well as that country’s sacred holiday(s) and the reasons for them. As such, we consider many of the people who choose to “celebrate’ St. Patrick’s Day in a carefree, intentionally ignorant manner to be arrogant and disrespectful fools.

Many of our fellow Americans are so quick to engage in certain cultural observances that it makes them look pathetic whenever they participate. We see this ignorance and hypocrisy happen yearly with calendar observances like Valentine’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, Easter, Veterans Day, Memorial Day and Christmas, for example. Speaking of Christmas, many people would swear or argue others down if ever someone were to tell them that holidays like Christmas is in fact, originally a pagan holiday; one stolen by Christians to designate and celebrate the actually unknown and undocumented birthday of their “savior” Jesus Christ. How interesting that the Bible is absent of that important information. Maybe God forgot to tell Man to record that data! For all we know, Jesus Christ was born on our birthday! Yeah…let us go with that!
Now why – you might ask, did we mention “God” and “Jesus Christ” in this writing? How the hell does Christianity relate to this commentary? Well, if you knew anything about St. Patrick you would not have to ask that question! But I digress.

Since the calendar – as of this writing, is set on March 17 to celebrate (for another fifteen minutes) St. Patrick’s Day, we challenge many of you SPD revelers – after your “Irish” debauchery is over, that is – and long after you’ve recovered from your green beer hangover, to ask someone to briefly explain just WHO the fuck was Saint Patrick (and what was his real or full name), what the hell IS a leprechaun, what is a “shamrock” and where it can be found or is grown and to name the historical significance behind this particular Irish holiday. Better yet, ask someone who had such a hard-on for St. Patrick’s Day to tell you where Ireland is and who, what or where is Downpatrick. Ask them to name TWO other rock bands (besides the band U2) that are from Ireland and to explain that country’s relationship to another sovereign nation on that side of “the pond”. You may be hard pressed to find someone who can correctly answer these questions without first hitting up the Internet via their smart phone or iPad. What you might find humorously interesting is the answers given by some people with Irish surnames.

So yes, we cannot wait until the American St. Patrick’s Day bullshit is over. In fact, it has long been our desire to someday see the elimination of the St. Patrick’s Day stricken from the American calendar. We realize that’s just a pipe dream but we can wish.

Praying for Year 2014 – Not!*

*Another presentation in the KIR continuing series of articles of the Steppin’ On The Feet Jesus Washed  Project-Mission! [SOTFJW-PM]
nude man praying-3 2014
Knowing how hundreds of people will be going to church or staying home New Year’s Eve to pray to their deity about things they want to see in the coming year, here’s my opinion about the ineffectiveness and uselessness of prayer. Now, I don’t want to get into a huge debate about prayer but I ask that you simply think about its effectiveness for a moment.

People pray to a deity for certain things and have some hope or faith in that deity’s ability to grant them their requests. However, there is the possibility that the prayer request of one person can be counteracted by a request “sent up” by someone Prayer - helping people feel better about doing nothing - Copyelse to the same deity. A simple example would be war between opposing countries or a competition between opposing sports teams. Each side – and their benefactors, supporters and fans, pray to the same deity for a win. Now, keep in mind that if a god or goddess exists, they are such for a reason. When it comes to Mankind, that god or goddess – considered a supreme being over Man, never has to choose who will win or who will lose in anything. They also do not have to grant or honor any thought or prayer request “sent up” to them. Why? Because they are deity! That’s why I’m amused whenever people say, “God heard and answered my prayer.” I’m thinking, “Really??”

Christians need to tell me and prove to me how exactly they know what God heard. They need to explain what makes one person’s prayers more favorable over that of someone else who may have “prayed” to the same deity – for the very same blessing on their part, yet God did not answer. They also need to explain why and how God chooses which kinds of prayers to answer and which to ignore. I’m sure Christians have been challenged with such questions before.

nude man prayingYou see, even the Christian Bible says that God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34) yet Christians ignore this fact and the chosen ignorance enjoyed by deity! Worse, they create some “reason” to explain why God acts the way he does. If I didn’t know better, I’d say Christians created their god and that there is an instruction book on how to get God to act or perform. Funny when you think about it, isn’t it? Christians might want to read some Greek, Roman, Norse and African mythology stories. The behavior of the gods (created by those people) in such stories is fascinating! Oh, but wait! The god in the Bible already provides enough content in the area of deistic behavior. Never mind.

If people think about it, the similarity between how a child is looked upon by its parent is no different from how a human is looked upon by a god – and vice versa. So many Christians tell the lie and unproven fact that God answered THEIR prayer over a situation while their neighbor – whose prayer was not answered, is told, “It is God’s will” or worse, is told: “God did not answer your prayer because you asked amiss and with bad or wrong intentions.” (James 4:3) or the person Prayer is like masturbationis told: “You didn’t have enough faith (the size of a mustard seed) (Luke 17:6; Matthew 17:20) in God’s power.” These are lies and contradictions told by most Christians each and every day to justify why God does or does not do a particular thing. I’ve always found it curious that an omnipotent god has so many mortal people speaking for him.

CHECK IT: The competitive affairs of Man do not concern a god or gods (again, if there is any). Why should they? They are deity! Since the gods believe in nothing, their only concern might be YOUR belief in them – and in such belief, they take their amusement. Therefore, save your prayers – and try to do or help yourself with the will power, knowledge, and skills you have – and should consistently be improving upon…and try to remember to help your fellow man who may not be so blessed.
